Diversamente da quella narrata da Paolo Diacono nella «Historia Langobardorum», la storia dei Longobardi di Benevento fra l’VIII e il IX secolo, raccontata da Erchemperto nell’«Ystoriola Langobardorum Beneventum degentium», è una storia nella quale si alternano continuamente il bene e il male, Dio e Satana, il coraggio, la virtù, l’abnegazione da un lato e, dall’altro, la viltà, il tradimento, la perfidia. In this intervention the reading of the "praefatio" at the «Ystoriola Langobardorum Beneventum degentium» by Erchempert, a Lombard historian of the IXth century, is conducted. The examination allows us to observe, as a preliminary, a historian of the High Middle Ages at his “work table”, in the reference to the sources and models and, at the same time, in the clear awareness of the innovative elements that he proposes to highlight through the story of the tragic and fatal decline of the Lombard people of southern Italy. Les testaments merovingiens ont de longue date attire l'attention des diplomaties, des historiens du droit et de la societe. U. Nonn a montre la continuite entre testaments romains et merovingiens, mais on s'interroge toujours sur la diffusion de ces actes dans la societe et sur les conditions de leur disparition au IX e siecle. Un reexamen de la question (avec listes du materiel disponible) donne a penser que differents types d'actes a cause de mort etaient utilises dans la societe merovingienne et que les testaments aristocratiques - les seuls connus-, conserves de maniere preferentielle par les heritiers ecclesiastiques qu'ils instituaient, ne sont pas representatifs d'une pratique sans …
